As part of our ongoing series of events in support of the William L. Finley photographic exhibit on display at the Refuge, Finley's biographer Worth Mathewson will present an overall view of Finley and his life’s work, highlighting the significance of Finley’s influential role as one of the very few Westerners involved during the important early years of wildlife conservation (1890s, early 1900s) when all of the other major individuals involved were East Coast-based.

Speaker Bio: Worth Mathewson has sold articles to 42 different magazines, and has authored or compiled 12 books. He is an avid hunter, angler, trapper and birder, in no particular order. As a 6 year old living in Virginia, Worth was given a copy of Birds in America for his 6th birthday, and Bohlman and Finley’s photographs made a lasting impression. He still believes that there has never been a better photograph take of condors than the one in that book. When his family moved to Oregon in 1956, Worth was thrilled to learn that Finley lived and did much of his work in the State. Worth has been writing on outdoor subjects and natural history for 40 years, including the biography of Finley, “William L. Finley, Pioneer Wildlife Photographer.”
