Joyfully Connecting Our Community with the Wonder of the Refuge

Wapato Lake Planting with Friends of Trees

  • November 22, 2025
  • 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
  • 104 Onion Ln, Gaston, OR 97119

Join the Friends, Friends of Trees, and Clean Water Services for a fun partnership planting event!

Your help is needed to help plant at Wapato Lake National Wildlife Refuge, one of the nation's newest refuges! This site consists of 817 acres within a 5,000 acre network of near-contiguous publicly-owned natural areas connecting wetlands, floodplains, and waterways, is of critical importance to the health of water, wildlife and people across the Portland metro area. Please join for a fun morning planting in the wetlands!

Please arrive by 8:45am to sign-in and be assigned a planting crew. The planting starts at 9:00am. We provide gloves, tools, and planting guidance, as well as breakfast snacks and coffee/tea/hot chocolate -- all you need to do is show up dressed for the weather wearing sturdy shoes or boots, and be ready to have fun!

How do I register? Registration is REQUIRED through the Friends of Trees website! Find the event on the calendar here. Minors 16 and older are welcome to volunteer without a parent or guardian but must have parent signatures on a FWS Volunteer Service Agreement and Friends of Trees waiver (on their website).

Reach out to Bethany at bethany_llewellyn@fws.gov with any questions.
